Amazon Echo Show
Every year on Amazon Prime Day, the company promised more than a million deals worldwide, and people were eager to take advantage of the discounts. I was no exception. I started browsing for deals and found Amazon Echo Show devices for sale. I have been interest in their Amazon Echo Show, a device that has the Amazon Alexa voice assistant and a screen. The device was released in May of 2017 and has since been updated to the second generation. The Echo Show comes in four different models, the 5, 8, 10, and 15. All of the displays are touchscreens and have Alexa built in.
What Does Echo Show Do?
This year, on Prime Day, I decided to buy a few Amazon Echo Shows. I bought 2 of Echo Show 8, 1 Echo Show 5 and 1 Blink Mini Camera. I wanted to put one in each room in my house.
The Echo Show is a great device that has many features. One of my favorite features is the Drop In function. With Drop In, I can easily see my son's room and see what's going on. This makes it easy to keep an eye on him even when I'm not in his room.
You can also watch Video and listen to music on the Echo Show. I do not have the Echo 10 or 15 so I can't tell you how good they sound, I do not have either of these so I cannot tell you how they sound, but I can tell you about the speaker on the Echo 8. Echo Show 5 sound decent but Echo Show 8 come with great sound, and I do enjoy listen to music from it. The screen is small on both of the Echo Show 5 & 8, to me Echo Show 5 look like the size of an Iphone 6, the Echo Show 8 is like IPad Mini, so I don't watch any movie on it. I really don't enjoy watching movies on a small screen, I would rather watch on my big screen TV. The picture is much clearer and I feel like I am more engaged in the movie.
Can you watch video and movies?
The answer is yes!
Since the release of Echo Show, Amazon has been working hard to get other popular streaming platforms on the device. As of now, only Netflix, Hulu, and Prime are available. This leaves out other popular streaming services like HBO Now and Sling TV. Amazon said they soon will get Sling TV and plan for TikTok; news apps from ABC, NBC News Now and CBS News.
In case you are wondering if you can watch Youtube videos on it. The answer is also yes! You can watch Youtube videos on Silk browser with Echo Show. Here's how:
First, make sure your Echo Show is connected to the internet. Then open Silk browser and go to youtube.com. Once you're on the website, play the video you want to watch. To make the video full screen, just press the button in the bottom right corner of the screen.
If you want to pause or stop the video, just press the pause button in the bottom left corner of the screen. And if you want to turn off captions, just press the CC button in the bottom right corner of the screen.
Who should not buy Amazon Echo Show
As for smart assistant, there are 3 well known ones they are Siri from Apple, Alexa from Amazon and Google. I like all three platforms, I own some of their product and tried all, but I haven't invested heavily into any of them until now. If you invest heavy into google echo system, you should not buy Amazon Echo Show because Youtube & Youtube Music doesn't not support natively.
Amazon Echo Show 15 vs 10 vs 8 vs 5: What's the difference?
The most notable differences between the Echo Show 15 and the original Echo Show are the size of the screen. The Echo Show 5 & 8 are very similar in terms of design and capabilities.

The Echo Show 10 is a great device for the family. With its rotating camera it is perfect for video calling, especialy in the kitchen while cooking or family room, the camera rotate to the person who is currently talking. The Echo Show 15 is very different, the screen size is 15.6 inches, making it perfect for wall mounting like a smart picture frame.
Despite these differences, all devices are excellent options for anyone looking for a quality Echo device with a screen.

Other good smart displays
While Amazon Echo is the most popular option on the market, there are a few other devices worth considering. Google Nest Hub is a good alternative to Amazon Echo Show; it's cheaper than the Amazon Echo Show at a cost, no camera for video call.
